Overnight it slept...and didn't wake up!

The battery was at about 60% when I went to bed. Normally I will charge it before sleeping but since I was charging the 3GS at that time, I thought I would do it the next morning...

So I woke up and took the 3G ...it was DEAD...blank...nada! nothing on screen and couldn't power it on. You know, there's a lotta ppl with a lotta nightmares when their iPhone goes blank or hangs etc etc...Anyway, I plugged it into the wall socket and it showed the RED flat battery icon. In less than 1 minute, there's already 30% battery life on the indicator...hmmmmmmmm...

All I did yesterday was configure 2 email accounts and all the PUSH functions were set to either manual or OFF. So...what could've GONE WRONG???

There's so much mystery sorrounding how the iPhone works (for common ppl, that is)...it's my first month using it, so there's many to uncover huh?

Drastic action taken anyway : I took out my SIM card from the 3G and put it back into my Samsung D880. Can't take the chance of not being contactable being business people ya know...All in all, I DON'T LIKE PHONES THAT SWITCH ITSELF OFF!

Battery usage update

After 'fixing' the issue, here's a test conducted today...

Fully charged with the iPhone ON yesterday night till this morning, so began with 100% battery level this morning at 9am.

With wifi usage + applications usage for about 1 hour +, the battery is now at 40%.

Not very satisfactory results for me.

battery n charging problem

Prob 1 : Battery can't charge properly
Prob 2 : Battery drains fassst

Searched around and seems this is a big problem with iphone 3.0 software (i think). A lot of forums, a lot of tech sites ...seemssss to point the problem to a few possible causes like :
  • internet tethering
  • push functions
  • mail background services
  • iphone self mechanism to stop charging once unit becomes warm/hot

etc etc

What I did (so far so good)

  • Hard reset (hold power + home button till off screen comes on, blank screen and release fingers after apple logo comes out)
  • switch off internet tethering (Settings/General/Network/Internet Tethering) *sometimes will not appear if not connected to pc
  • switch off all push functions

What did the trick (so far so good)

  • deleted my gmail account

Summary :

it was ok when i got the phone. maybe lasted the day till evening and played with functions apps etc. After installing apps, setting gmail etc, the battery life became....bad. It was like going back to the 80's...tried fully discharge (till battery became red color etc) and switching off to recharge etc. Fully charged battery didn't last even 1 hour of idling!

Now seems ok after i did the above, maybe u can give it a try (instead of fiddling with those SSBsettings, OpenSSH, reinstalling firmware solutions)

prob with installing apps

Prob : couldn't sync new apps to iphone

Solution : dwnld n installed iphone 3.0 sync (hackulo)

Note : must download/install a free app from App Store 1st

Kautim

bought an iphone yesterday

saw an ad, contacted the seller

got myself a 2nd set of iphone 3G for testing purposes

not really used the 1st set much, more for calls and sms ...that was an "open set" i.e. can put in any SIM card and use it without "unlocking" phone

2nd set is AT&T set, means it came from US...and need to "unlock" to use it. anyway already unlocked when i bought it, so just put in my spare sim card to use

------------

Update : sold off this one and got a 3GS in early Nov
